Description

Mental Health First Aid USA is an evidence-based training that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance-use challenge.  

Participants must complete both the 2 hour pre-work module (online) and attend both instructor-led sessions in its entirety to become certified with MHFA.  
 
If you participate in the University's Well U program, completing MHFA will earn you a Well U credit. 

Please note: Courses must meet a minimum registration of 15 participants.


Overview/Objective

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least one sign of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older.
  2. Participants will increase their confidence in the appropriate ways to offer and provide initial help.
  3. Participants will learn how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary.

The University of Utah's Student Affairs Department hosts frequent Adult MHFA trainings throughout the year open to staff, faculty, and students. Learn about future course dates by emailing  wellness@sa.utah.edu.
