As you know, the Center for Campus Wellness does a lot of work to prevent violence, reduce harm, improve mental health, and support survivors! For the last few years we've had what we call, a dream baby, to further this mission more intentionally by engaging with and working alongside men and male-identified students on our campus. With support from the Student Mental Health Fee and the Office on Violence Against Women grant, we are making some moves making this a reality!

Enter our newest team member and first ever, Engagement Coordinator, Myra Gerst! Myra brings quite the experience, energy, and commitment to help this new program grow. We are thrilled to welcome her to the team.

As our first Engagement Coordinator, she will be connecting with many campus partners and students to help build this new program to elevate safety and wellness here at the U.

We invite you to give Myra a warm welcome and can't wait for her to start meeting with you all! Want to learn a bit more about our newest team member? Keep reading!

Tell us about yourself. I am coming from the world of violence prevention and public health; I was also lucky enough to have been a peer health educator while I was doing my undergrad. I am a St. Louis native but have moved around the country quite a bit before moving to Utah about a year ago.

What has been your greatest adventure thus far? Living out of a backpack and traveling solo throughout Southeast Asia.

You love to travel! Where are a few places you've been? I've been lucky enough to have seen a lot of the US. I have also traveled to Israel, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia.

What is an interesting fact about you? I worked as a chef in a fine dining restaurant in Airlie Beach, Australia.

What are you reading right now? Sexual Citizens and The Girl Who Played with Fire

Any hobbies? I love cooking, it's an easy way for me to shut down my thoughts and be completely present.

Where is your go-to place for good grub? Chanon Thai is always the solution when we don't know what to do for dinner
